Role summary
Own recruiting operations and the People Ops portal—reviewing applications, coordinating hiring workflows, and laying groundwork for HR systems (Gusto, onboarding) as the team grows.

PBB is actively hiring across eight open roles while the founding team still handles recruiting directly. A People Ops function centralizes application review, candidate experience, and compliance-aware hiring operations.
First 6–12 month outcomes
- Operate day-to-day management of careers applications via /admin/people-ops.
- Establish hiring pipeline stages, SLAs, and communication templates.
- Partner with hiring managers on role scorecards and interview plans.
- Prepare Gusto and HRIS onboarding for first employee hires.
- Maintain EEO-compliant process documentation and retention policies.
Responsibilities
- Review and triage applications; coordinate with hiring managers.
- Manage application status, internal notes, and resume access via People Ops portal.
- Schedule interviews and coordinate candidate communications.
- Maintain careers content accuracy with marketing and hiring owner.
- Support compliance: work authorization screening, accommodation requests, and retention policy.
- Plan phased rollout of payroll/benefits systems (Gusto) per HR roadmap.
Required qualifications
- Experience in recruiting coordination, People Ops, or HR generalist functions at an early-stage company.
- Strong organizational skills and discretion handling candidate PII.
- Excellent written communication for candidate and internal updates.
- Familiarity with EEO and employment compliance basics.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Gusto or similar HRIS/payroll platforms.
- Tech startup hiring experience.
- Experience standing up applicant tracking workflows.
- San Diego-based or willing to work Pacific time hours.
